WILDLIFE PROTECTION

Preserving the Ecosystem:

…safeguarding dozens of unique species by identifying pollution
sources and protecting the water quality of the river.

This rescued red tailed hawk is being cared for at Henry Horton State Park

The Wildlife Protection Program works on projects like:

Preserving the habitats of sport fish populations like bass, bluegill and sunfish as well as rare species of darter fish.

Studying and assessing unique species of fish, mollusks and aquatic insects that do not exist anywhere else in the world! Some aspects of the research are to determine the feasibility of some species’ reintroduction.

Establishing a new volunteer river monitoring program that trains volunteers to identify aquatic insects and wildlife — the best indicator of river health. This will be the third volunteer based scientifically valid field study HRWA has conducted.
