North Ewingville Creek in Franklin

December 16, 2002

The River Restoration Corps did a streambank stabilization project on Saturday morning.
A group of volunteers showed up to help install cedar revetments and stream deflectors on Ralston Branch a tributary of North Ewingville Creek in north east Franklin.  These are methods to protect the stream bank which has begun to erode.

Cedar trees were cabled into place at the toe (bottom) of the bank using steel posts driven into the bank.  Blocks were positioned into the bank in the stream bed to divert the stream away from the banks and toward the center part of the channel.

An erosion study site to document the amount of erosion that takes place during the next year will be set up at the site.

This restoration project is one of five that the HRWA is doing around the Harpeth River watershed as part of a grant from the State Nonpoint Source Program and the EPA.

Remember: we'll be doing more of this (and other restoration projects) and we'd LOVE to have you join us on our next project! Please contact us if you're interested or would like more information: 615-790-9767 or hrwa@harpethriver.org.
