Hike to Historic Mound Bottom- November 1
Join HRWA and the Harpeth River State Park on November 1, 2008 on a hike to historic Mound Bottom. This area, once the home of a Mississippian Native American settlement, is now a state owned archaeological area in Cheatham County. It is one of the largest prehistoric sites in the southeastern United States. This lost culture built mounds in which they often buried important people along with sacred or important pottery, tools and weapons. Mound Bottom, in the Harpeth River State Park, is one of the best preserved examples of this phenomenon in Tennessee. Join us to experience a place and a culture forever lost in time, the remains of a sophisticated agricultural society. Bring a picnic lunch and stay after the hike to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
Date: Saturday, November 1, 2008
Time: 9 am – Noon
Distance: approximately 2 miles roundtrip
Meeting Location: Hwy 70 at Cedar Hill Road, parking available.
