2010 Priority Goals
 


Water Quality Improvement Campaign
 

  • Establish new permits for sewer discharges into the Harpeth for Franklin, Lynwood and Cartwright Creek facilities with the goal that Hapeth River meets water quality standards for dissolved oxygen during the summer low-flow months. The state (TDEC) has proposed new permits under consideration as of the fall of 2009
  • Coordinate new collaborative project with funding from the Fish and Wildlife Service to remove old low-head dam in Franklin to modernize intake for Franklin's drinking water plant and reconnect entire river for fish migration
  • Ensure Egyptian Lacquer clean up in downtown Franklin
  • Stormwater control implementation programs updated to meet new requirements, especially for stream buffers and low impact development approaches  

Heart of the Harpeth Campaign 

  • Protect the most pristine and diverse streams in the watershed
  • Focus on South Harpeth, West Harpeth, and Turnbull Creek subwatesheds with if receive new grant support to implement watershed plans that have been written by HRWA with prior funding

Stream Restoration Campaign

  • Restoration projects throughout the watershed
  • Completed agricultural projects in headwaters in Eagleville, TN with TN Department of Agriculture grant
  • Completed demonstration projects in Dickson with TN Department of Agriculture grant

Harpeth River Blueway Campaign

  • Improved access for paddlers and fishing
  • Upgrade access at Franklin's lowhead dam with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service lowhead dam removal funding 
  • Focus on establishing public accesses with city of Franklin and at Moran Road to connect upper Harpeth with the Harpeth River State Park in the lower Harpeth. 
  • Produce Upper Harpeth Blueway access map.  Lower Harpeth Blueway access map produced in fall 2009.
